Sports I B1 Two more arrested in armed break-in THADD WHITE Bertie Ledger-Advance WINDSOR - Two more are in custody. Bertie County Sheriff John Holley said his officers have arrested two more people in connection with a Sept. 8 break-in on Tony’s Lane in Windsor. That brings to six the num ber who have been charged in the incident, and the sher iff indicated there might be more. “We have not closed this case, and the investigation is ongoing,” Sheriff Holley said. Elliot Grimes and Kellye Rascoe have been added to the list of those charged in the incident. Sheriff Holley said the sus pects were charged follow ing a break-in on Tony’s Lane in Windsor where they re portedly held an elderly ho meowner at gunpoint while they removed items from his home. A c - cording to Bertie County S h e r T iff John Holley, on Tues day, Sept. 25 the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office responded to Grabtown Road for a report of a stolen firearm. Cpl. Danielle Colon took the report and in formed investigators about the incident. Just before midnight the same day, informa tion was provided the suspect may be travel ing back to the location where the firearm was stolen. Lt. Matt Roebuck ob served a vehicle oc cupied by Cecil White and attempted a traffic stop. Roebuck was able to take White into cus tody. Deputy Malcom Cher ry, Sgt. Highway Patrol (NCHP) is seeking qualified ap plicants. First Sgt. Rodney W. Sawyer of Troop A, Dis trict II in Ahoskie said the NCHP currently has nearly 200 trooper va cancies, and are seek ing qualified people to join the organization. “People interested in a career as a N.C. High way Patrol Trooper can contact their local highway patrol office, speak with a Trooper or visit www.ncdps.gov,” First Sgt. Sawyer said. “Those interested who are living, working or attending school in Ber tie, Hertford or Gates counties can contact us at 252-332-6000 or visit our offices at 242 N.C. 42 West in Ahoskie. “Persons thinking about a promising and fulfilling career in law enforcement should consider greatly a ca reer as a Trooper with the N.C. Holley as the next superintendent of the Tyrrell County Schools. Holley has ties to Perquimans and Bertie county schools and In this edition he is a graduate of Elizabeth City State University. The BOE made the announce ment after meeting Thursday morning. “I am honored and humbled to be chosen to lead Tyrrell County Schools,”said Holley, who will take office Oct. 15. “I look forward to meeting and speaking with students, staff, parents, and community mem bers to begin learning about the great things happening in Tyr rell County Schools and how we can work together to achieve at even higher levels.” Travis Twiford has been serv ing as interim superintendent since June after Will Hoffman left to take a job as superinten dent of Madison County School system in the mountains at the western end of the state.
